Where It All Began
A Mother’s Gift, A Daughter’s Dream — The Birth of a Legacy That Uplifts Women
The Ladies Republic is one of the most well-known makeup schools in Sierra Leone. It was established in 2013 by Elizabeth Deen, a Sierra Leonean businesswoman, who received her first year’s tuition money from her mother, a former primary school teacher. Her desire to be able to pay for her continued education served as the impetus for her path towards business and entrepreneurship.
This organisation has a number of historical uniqueties. Elizabeth’s Beauty Republic, one of the top makeup and hair styling schools in Freetown, Sierra Leone, started out providing bridal makeup services before branching out into hair styling, jewellery making, and beadwork. When formal education in makeup and hairdressing was almost nonexistent in the western region of Sierra Leone, the Republic created systematic training programmes. In addition to providing training, The Ladies Republic established a hair salon and makeup shop and a complete product line tailored to the beauty requirements of African women. The school’s reputation by 2014–2015 earned it the moniker “Ladies Republic.”
